Alien Vol. 1: Bloodlines (Alien, 1) Customer Reviews
:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from J Despres -- Thank Marvel : Admittedly, I was terrified knowing that Alien’s future now rested in the hands of Disney. But thankfully, Disney allowed Marvel studios to take the reins and they didn’t disappoint. They respected the lore and stayed true to what makes Alien such a great classic. Better yet, it wan’t watered down. I loved it. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2021 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from HAL -- Uninteresting remix of ALIENS : The writers and artists have a great time with the androids, and render Lance Henriksen's features quite well, but all the other characters — including the aliens themselves — are pretty dull and one-note, and the competent art can't rescue them. The story is exactly what you'd expect, with no real surprises; the only time I encountered something unexpected was in the handful of places where I couldn't tell from the artwork what was supposed to be happening. Nothing in this makes me think that Marvel has struck a new vein of creativitity; if this is the best story they could lead off with, the franchise is pretty well tapped out. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from Greg -- What a story! Gave me chills and goosebumps from excitement : Starts a little slow for me coming off reading the insane ride of immortal hulk. Story keeps you interested I’m new to this franchise so having to learn about the characters was key. The art was great and the ending cliffhanger just makes me want to freeze myself until the next one is out cartman style ( Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2021 )

- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Ben BrownTop Contributor: Star Wars -- A strong start to a new era of "Alien" comics. : When Marvel first acquired the 'Alien' brand from Dark Horse in 2020, fans had a variety of questions, ranging from “What will a Marvel-distributed 'Alien' comic series feel like in comparison to Dark Horse,” to “Will Marvel ‘sanitize’ the brand, to keep everything aligned with the big Disney banner?” Probably the biggest and most persistent question fans asked, though, had to do with the core identity of ‘Alien,’ and whether Marvel would aim to retain it within the comics they released, or simply seek to capitalize upon the brand name, while distributing series that were more or less cash-ins on a popular IPs (see: at least ½ of the 'Star Wars' output over the last 7 years). Judging purely by this first volume of their inaugural ‘Alien’ series, however, any fears fans might have had regarding Marvel’s ability to produce an ‘Alien’ comic that look and felt like ‘Alien’ seem to be unfounded: from the way that writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson effectively builds and maintains dread, to Salvador Larocca’s crisp, Gothic-styled penciling, this is as about as strong and ‘Alien’ a first arc as fans could have hoped for. Bring on Volume 2. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from James McFarlane -- Great : Good gory read ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 31, 2022 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from K -- If Alien is now a Marvel character, is the Xenomorph a Disney Princess? : Life-long Alien/Aliens fan, be it the movies, the comics, the novels (but not the games...not since Colonial Marines)... There have been low points in the franchise, from "3" not being the epic sequel on Earth it was planned as, to "the newborn", and Prometheus' horrible retconned origin. But none of those things were complete deal breakers. ( Reviewed in Canada on January 31, 2022 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from AW -- Semi-successful merge of two sets of canon : Pretty well-done and highly reminiscent of the tone of the first (and best) two films. It ambitiously tries to weave in some of the utterly terrible Prometheus & Covenant lore, with some success, but there's no denying that mixing the lead in with the gold has rendered the overall integrity of the plot ambiguous. The fact the volume ends on a cliffhanger also doesn't help. And finally, while the focus on human drama is well-written and helps drive the story, it also drags focus away from the core appeal of any Aliens media: horror and action. Still drew me in and will check out next volume to see how this goes. ( Reviewed in Australia on October 21, 2021 )
